Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team shut out Western Oregon University 2-0 this afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the WOU Soccer Field.
The win improves the Crusaders to 5-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in GNAC action. Setting a new benchmark for shutouts in a season since NNU became a full NCAA Division II member, the 2017 Crusaders have produced their fifth shutout of the season in just seven matches.
"Our girls were focused and determined to get a shutout today," commented NNU head coach
Mary Trigg. "We moved the ball well and finished two great chances. We're battling and getting better every week."
Danielle Ortiz produced another clean sheet in goal for NNU, finishing with two saves as the Crusaders outshot the Wolves 16-5 in the match.
One early goal and one late goal powered the offensive attack for the Crusaders.
Mabinty Kanu scored her second goal of the season in the 14
th-minute. Taking an
Anita Maryskova assist, Kanu's shot from 20-yards out on the left found the back of the net.
Holding the lead throughout,
Madi Taylor connected with
Rikki Myers in the 80
th-minute for her third goal of the season. Action off a corner deflection produced the scoring opportunity for the Crusader freshman.
The Crusaders will travel to Seattle Pacific University for a Saturday afternoon (4:00 p.m. PT) kickoff against the Falcons.
