Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene volleyball team defeated 10
th-ranked Western Washington University 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 tonight in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Johnson Sports Center on the NNU campus.
Sitting just outside the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll (115 votes, 26
th), the Crusaders remain unbeaten at 10-0, 2-0 in the GNAC after sweeping matches against Simon Fraser on Monday and Western Washington tonight. Ranked 10
th in this week's poll, the Vikings fall to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
"Our crowd was awesome tonight and were really into the match," commented NNU head coach
Doug English. "That makes it so intimidating and a true home court advantage. The environment is fun to be a part of and I truly think we have the best student crowd in the GNAC.
Mari Thomas posted a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and 14 digs. "Mari had her best offensive night as a Crusader," English added. "She had some big time kills in some big time situations."
Also finishing with a double-double was
Kendra Bodine who had 14 kills and a career-best 27 digs. "I have to think this was Kendra's best defensive match of her career," English commented.
Two-time GNAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week
Madi Farrell had 18 kills and Crusader setter
Hailey Cook dished out a match-high 53 assists with 14 digs.
"We served really well again tonight and that helped us," English continued. "We did a really good job executing our game plan."
Abby Phelps led Western Washington with 16 kills and 19 digs, while Michaela Hall had 13 kills and Joelle Buckner added 10 kills and 14 digs.
The Crusaders will travel to Western Oregon University next Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) and Concordia University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) for GNAC matches.
