Crusaders swat Yellowjackets 1-0

Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team opened Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Montana State University Billings at the NNU Soccer Field.
 
Scoreless through the first half of play and out-shot 4-2 in the first 45-minutes, the Crusaders turned it around in the second half, scoring in the 69th-minute and finishing with a 7-0 advantage in shots in the second half.
 
"We settled the game down in the second half and were able to play our style," commented NNU head coach Mary Trigg.  "We had a great goal from our freshman Rikki (Myers) and a great team effort to get the shutout."
 
Myers netted the game-winner with a header into the right side of the goal off an arching cross from Mabinty Kanu.  It was Myers second goal of the season.
 
The win moved NNU to 4-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in GNAC play.  MSU Billings fell to 1-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action.
 
Crusader goalkeeper Daniele Ortiz made three saves in preserving the clean sheet, while MSU Billings Erinn Harder allowed one goal and grabbed five saves.
 
Forcing the action in the second half with good ball control, the Crusaders finished with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
The Crusaders return to the pitch next weekend, traveling to Western Oregon University on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) and Seattle Pacific University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).
