Nighthawks finish regular season undefeated at home

Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – In front of the biggest crowd of the season, the Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team gave them plenty to cheer about.

The Nighthawks (24-2, 16-2 GNAC) swept Montana State Billings 25-15, 25-21, 25-19 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at Johnson Sports Center.

"This place has been so good to us," NNU coach Doug English said. "It was a huge crowd tonight. That might be the biggest crowd we have since I've been here. It was really cool to see people come out."

The crowd was listed at 1,602 as the victory kicked off Homecoming festivities and was the last regular season home match for five seniors: Kendra Bodine, Hailey Cook, Mari Thomas, Jacquelyn Johnson and Madi Farrell.

"It's great to play good volleyball and get a victory and celebrate our seniors," English said. "They in general haven't lost very many games here and it was awesome to go undefeated here this year."

Bodine and Farrell again led the offense, as Bodine had 21 kills and Farrell 15. Farrell had a .464 kill percentage – her third consecutive match with a hitting percentage higher than .400. She was named the GNAC volleyball player of the week last week.

NNU now hits the road for its final two regular season matches – at Western Washington on Thursday and at Simon Fraser on Saturday. If the Nighthawks win both matches they will win the GNAC conference title.

"Next weekend is a huge challenge for us," English said. "We haven't played as consistent or clean of volleyball (on the road) as we have at home. I think we are just comfortable at home."

Cook finished with 47 assists and 10 digs, while Thomas had 12 digs and Johnson had 20 digs.
