#13 Nighthawks battle for five-set win over Central Washington

| By:
Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – "It has been really good in practice, so we had complete confidence in making the move," NNU head coach Doug English.

Down two sets to none and trying to sweep the final four matches of the year to win a conference championship, head coach Doug English made the mid-match change to a 6-2 system and his players responded with a thrilling 21-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11 Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory over Central Washington University tonight at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.

The Nighthawks (23-2 overall, 15-2 GNAC) were led by Cami Heninger with 17 kills, while Kendra Bodine had 16 and current GNAC Player of the Week Madi Farrell had 14 kills and 8 blocks.

"Switching the system alleviated the pressure for our outsides," English continued.  "It allowed us to stick to our game plan, have Madi (Ferrell) one on one in the middle, and give us a better matchup on the right side."

"Cami just had a great night and she scored how we hoped she would," English added.  That match-up is what helped Heninger and Brennis to thrive in the final three sets, as Brennis finished with nine kills.

"They do it every day in practice.  Jess gives us great energy on the bench and she came into the match and brought it out onto the court and Megan (Nelson) was ready to go."

Nelson dished out 18 assists alongside senior Hailey Cook's 46 as the pair quarterbacked the Nighthawks to a victory, avenging the loss in Ellensburg earlier this season.

"I thought both Cami and Natalie (Knauf) played their best matches of the year tonight and we served very tough as a team," English added.  Knauf finished with seven kills and two blocks.

Leading the defense were Mari Thomas and Jacquelyn Johnson, both with a match-high 29 digs, while Bodine hustled for 18 to add another double-double to her stat totals.

Central Washington (18-7, 13-4 GNAC) was led by Shelby Mauritson with a 16 kill – 21 dig double-double and both Sabrina Wheelhouse and Maggie McTaggard had 10 kills.

The Nighthawks play their final home match of the season on Thursday night when they host Montana State Billings at 7 p.m.  The five NNU seniors will be honored prior to the match.
