NNU men's soccer sends seniors out with win

| By:
Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – Rafael Junqueira scored in the 56th minute to give the Northwest Nazarene University men's soccer team a 2-1 victory Thursday against Concordia University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

After the referee waved off a foul because of offensive advantage for NNU, Junqueira made a nifty move and hammered home a shot past Concordia keeper Benoit Bouillant for his third goal of the season.

"It was great to get a win in our final home game of the season," NNU coach Joel DeLass said. "It's a great group of seniors, so it's fun when we can send them on with a victory in their last game at NNU."

The victory sends NNU's five seniors out winners in their final home game. The Nighthawks (7-6-3, 4-4-3 GNAC) play at 3 p.m. MDT on Saturday at Saint Martin's in Lacey, Wash., in their final regular season match of the season.

Jonathan Bryant scored in the 11th minute on a header off of a corner kick by Edwin Quiroz. Concordia tied the game in the 21st on a goal by Reggie Reyes.

"I thought Concordia really played with a lot of intensity, which gave us problems at times," DeLass said, "but for the most part our backs were able to weather their attacks.

"We definitely created enough chances to score a few more. Hopefully as we head into our final game Saturday, we can create those kind of chances and put them away."

The five seniors honored in their final home match were goalkeeper Alex Basulto, forward Keon Jones, defender Collin Raymond, defender Jonathan Borges and midfielder Michael Bryant. All five started and played significant minutes in the victory.

The win runs NNU's unbeaten streak to four games, including a 3-2 overtime victory at Concordia on October 21.
