Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team started a new streak tonight…undefeated as the Nighthawks. The 12th-ranked Nighthawks defeated Concordia University 25-11, 25-12, 25-17 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at the Johnson Sports Center.
Starting out the season with a school-record 16 straight wins, the Nighthawks now start fresh with a new mascot.
NNU improved to 18-1 overall and sit in first-place at 10-1 in GNAC action. The Cavaliers fell to 9-9 overall and 4-7 in league play.
"Our setting was terrific tonight," commented NNU head coach Doug English. "We were getting great match-ups and really executing." Nighthawk senior setter Hailey Cook dished out a match-high 33 assists.
"Everyone who played, played well," English continued. "We played every player that is eligible and they all came in a did a great job. It just feels so good to be home, we have not felt like this in a couple weeks and it's nice to have the familiar surroundings again."
Kendra Bodine led all players with 20 kills while Mari Thomas had nine and Madi Farrell finished with seven. Jess Brennis came off the bench to record four kills in only five swings.
NNU hit .443 for the match and held Concordia to a .029 hitting percentage and had 11 blocks.
The Nighthawks will host Western Oregon University on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Sports Center.
