ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Olivia Carter's free kick from 40-yards away rattled around in the box and resulted in an own-goal for Central Washington as Northwest Nazarene defeated the Wildcats 1-0 at the CWU Soccer Complex in Ellensburg.

Carter played the free kick in the 40th-minute to the back post, but a CWU defender attempted to clear the offering with a header that ended up in the goal.

The Nighthawks improved to 10-5 overall and sit alone in third-place at 7-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.  Central Washington fell to 1-10-3 overall and 0-7-2 in league action.

"It wasn't the prettiest game.  We struggled to make adjustments to what Central was throwing at us in the attack," commented NNU head coach Mary Trigg.  "But we kept the clean sheet and at the end of the day we're coming home with the W."

Daniele Ortiz made six saves for the Nighthawks and CWU's Emily Holt hustled for four.

"We have some much needed rest coming up with our bye.  We will heal up and prepare for senior weekend."

NNU will have this weekend off and then host Western Washington next Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and Saint Martin's on Saturday, Oct. 28th at 1 p.m.
