HAYWARD, Calif. — The Crusaders just didn't have their best day against the Pioneers on Saturday.
A goal midway through the opening half proved to be the winner as Cal State East Bay held on to top Northwest Nazarene, 1-0, in women's soccer in a nonconference match.
"We weren't as sharp today as we needed to be," NNU head women's soccer coach
Mary Trigg said. "Some missed opportunities and too many turnovers."
Which led to the disheartening result for the Crusaders (0-2-0 overall), who saw the Pioneers (1-0-1) put the lone goal of the day away in the with 28 minutes, 28 seconds gone as Janis Gamboa put home a rebound after a save by NNU keeper
Daniele Ortiz.
Ortiz finished with seven saves in the contest for the Crusaders, who now return home to host Warner Pacific on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in NNU's home debut.
"We're excited to be back home for the next four games," Trigg said.
