PORTLAND, Ore. — The Crusaders unstoppable run came to an end Saturday afternoon on the road.

No. 24-ranked Northwest Nazarene suffered its first setback of the season, falling 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 at Concordia in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action.

"Concordia played great on offense and we could not stop them," NNU head coach Doug English said. "We played hard and they were better today."

Blocking proved to be the big difference for the Cavaliers (5-5 overall, 1-1 GNAC) who recorded 21 points off blocks of NNU attacks.

Still, the Crusaders' Madi Farrell and Kendra Bodine kept swinging away and racked up match-highs of 18 and 17 kills, respectively.

"Madi played great in the middle and Hailey (Cook) set well," English said, as Cook dished out 46 assists.

A Farrell kill snapped a 16-16 tie in the opening set and a Cami Heninger service ace put the Crusaders on top 20-16, and on their way to an early edge in the match.

But Concordia took over from there as a tandem block by Colby Barnette and Tori Johnson put the Cavaliers up 4-0 in the second set, and a block by Michele Brown and Barnette pushed the lead to 15-7 en route to Concordia evening the match.

Back-to-back blocks by the Cavaliers sparked a 5-0 surge early in the third, and sent them on their way to turning around the match.

Then back-to-back tandem blocks by Lindsey Dorset and Barnette put the Concordia on top for good, up 19-17, in the decisive fourth set.

Shayli Siegfreid had 15 digs in the match to lead NNU (8-1, 1-1), which looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it hosts Central Washington on Tuesday at the Johnson Sports Center at 7 p.m. in the team's home debut.

"We have to get over this fast as we have another really good team in Central coming in on Tuesday," English said.
