ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Crusaders found the road a bit unwelcoming Saturday night.

A missed penalty kick opened the door for host Dixie State to ice a 3-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene in the Trailblazers' home opener, and the Crusaders first game away from home this fall.

"Dixie State wanted it more than us tonight," NNU head coach Joel DeLass said. "We didn't match their intensity throughout much of the game and that cost us."

Dixie State (2-3-0 overall) grabbed a one-goal lead in the 32nd minute, but NNU (3-2-1) answered when Fernando Alvarez scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick just 3:18 into the second half.

Ten minutes later DSU snapped the 1-1 tie, but the Crusaders pushed the attack and had the chance to tie the game once again with 8:54 remaining with their second penalty kick of the game.

Unfortunately for NNU, the chance went wide and the Trailblazers countered with the game-icing goal just 36 second later.

NNU goalkeeper Ryan Foo made five saves in the contest for the Crusaders who return home to host Montana State Billings at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the GNAC opener for both teams.
