NAMPA, Idaho — Two miscues proved to be two too many for the Crusaders.

Visiting Hawaii Hilo took advantage of a foul in the Northwest Nazarene goal box and a defensive turnover to net both goals in a 2-0 victory on Saturday at Finkbeiner Park on the NNU campus.

"We dug ourselves too big of a hole after the penalty kick and a turnover in our box," NNU head coach Mary Trigg said.

"It would have been a good game without silly mistakes, but that's soccer — it's a game of capitalizing on other's mistakes."

Which the Vulcans (1-1-0 overall) did just 20 seconds into the second half when the Crusaders were called for a foul in their own goal box.

Tiera Arakawa took the penalty kick and booted home what proved to be the game-winner.

Almost 10 minutes later, though, Arakawa was the benefactor of one more NNU miscue, a turnover that left the Vulcan forward alone with the ball in front of the Crusader net for an easy goal, and a 2-0 lead.

NNU (1-3-0) pressed to get on the board, but came up empty despite holding a slim, 18-17, edge in shots.

Daniele Ortiz made six saves in goal in the loss for NNU, which gets the chance to bounce back quickly from the setback as the Crusaders host Dominican (Calif.) on Monday at 3 p.m.
