LACEY, Wash. — Once again, the Crusader volleyball team proved to be unstoppable, part of Northwest Nazarene's second-half surge on the hardwood.
Four different players recorded nine kills each and a fifth added eight kills for NNU, which used a balanced barrage on offense to sweep host St. Martin's, 25-12, 25-14, 25-18, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball.
"We played our best match at Saint Martin's since I have been the coach at NNU," Crusader head coach
Doug English said. "The team was super focused and played great defense along with having our most balanced attacking match of the year."
Kendra Bodine's kill with the Crusaders (15-5 overall, 8-5 GNAC) leading just 11-8 in the opening set sparked a dominating 14-4 finishing surge in an opener that saw NNU pound out 15 kills as a team with just two hitting errors.
The Crusader attack was equally stellar in the second set, putting away 19 kills with just four miscues, going up 8-2 and 15-5 on
Cami Heninger kills on route to another victory.
The third set proved to be the closest, with the Saints (6-11, 2-11) leading as much as 10-7 before a tandem block by
Madi Farrell and Heninger ignited an 11-1 run by the Crusaders that led to the sweep.
Bodine and Heninger were two of the NNU players to pound down nine kills each and were joined by teammates
Natalie Knauf and
Mari Thomas, while Farrell added eight kills and six blocks.
Bodine also made 14 digs and Thomas added 10 digs for NNU, which got 18 digs from
