BILLINGS, Mont. — The NNU volleyball wrapped up the first part of a crucial road-trip with one of their best offensive efforts of the season.
Hitting .347 percent for the match, the Crusaders dominated host Montana State Billings, 25-13, 25-21, 25-15 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Saturday night.
"We served and passed great which allowed us to have one of our best offensive matches and make it tough for them to score," NNU head coach
Doug English said. "Our middles scored well and that open things up for everyone else."
Crusader All-American middle blocker
Madi Farrell led the way with a match-high 13 kills and six blocks for NNU, which also got 11 kills from
Kendra Bodine in the win.
NNU had 46 kills with just 13 errors in the match, including just one miscue in the third and final set.
Cami Heninger also added six kills for the Crusaders, the first coming early in the opener and igniting a 9-2 run that allowed NNU to stretch a slim 6-4 lead to 15-6.
In the second set, a Farrell kill helped NNU pad a small 18-17 lead late, then it was balance that finished off the victory as
Hailey Cook, Heninger,
Natalie Knauf and
Mari Thomas each had a kill in the final seven points.
In the final set, a kill by NNU's setter, Cook, sparked another 9-2 Crusader run — capped by back-to-back
Kari Staples kills — as NNU grabbed a dominating 22-11 lead and closed out the sweep quickly.
Cook finished with 34 assists in the win, while
Shayli Siegfreid added 16 digs, and Bodine had 11 digs for NNU, which concludes its current four-match road-trip at St. Martin's on Thursday and at Seattle Pacific next Saturday.
