WAIPAHU, Hawaii — Almost any trip to Hawaii is a good one, but for the Crusaders, the past two days have been phenomenal.

For the second straight day, the Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team celebrated victory on the field, getting an overtime goal from All-American Julio Castillo to top host Hawaii Pacific, 2-1, Saturday evening.

"We have faced so much adversity in the past 48 hours," said NNU head men's soccer coach Coe Michaelson, whose team saw its season-opener rained out Thursday then responded with a 1-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo on Friday. "To play a fresh opponent as good as HPU in their home opener in our second game in two days and win tells you everything you need to know about what the guys put into this."

Now the Crusaders (2-0) get to relax and enjoy their hard work with two days off before wrapping up a 6-day, 3-game road trip to Hawaii by playing BYU-Hawaii at 6 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Tuesday.

Playing their second game in a little more than 24 hours, NNU still came out strong as Alex Mitrovic scored in the 10th minute, heading home a ball from Fernando Alvarez off a Graham Reid long throw-in.

Crusader keeper Ryan Foo, who earned his first shutout of the season in Friday's 1-0 win, stretched his scoreless streak well into the second half before the Sharks (0-1) tied it in the 60th minute, sending the contest to overtime.

Foo finished with three saves in goal for NNU in the win.

Once into the extra session, it didn't take long for NNU to win it as Bryan Neba sent a pass forward to Castillo who dribbled threw the defense and blasted the game-winner home from 20 yards out.

"It's difficult to single anyone out because the collective effort was fantastic, but I thought Abraham (Placito) was the best player on the field today," Michaelson said, adding, "and to see Julio come up with such a big goal in such a big game shows why he's an All-American."
