NAMPA, Idaho — New Crusader men's basketball coach Scott Flemming made many splashes throughout the summer by bringing in talented recruits from around the globe.

This week, Northwest Nazarene's head man made more big announcement with the signing of NCAA Division I transfer Detwon Rogers to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for NNU this coming season.
 

"Detwon has the potential to make a real impact on our program," Coach Flemming said of the transfer who is no stranger to Idaho as Rogers played two years at the College of Southern Idaho before transferring to the University of Dayton last season.

Recruited heavily by Wichita State and Louisiana Tech, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound forward from North Carolina opted to continue his collegiate career with the Flyers, but was sideline with an injury last season.

Rogers was team MVP and first team All-Conference as a senior in high school at New Hanover High School in Wilmington, N.C., where he averaged 14.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

In his final year with the Golden Eagles in Twin Falls, Idaho, he was No. 2 on the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, and added in 1.5 assists per night for CSI, which went 27-5.

The Crusader junior-to-be shot 51 percent from the field, 76 percent from the free-throw line and 39 percent from 3-point range his sophomore year with the Golden Eagles.

"Detwon is a versatile player that can bang inside but who also has a very good perimeter game," Flemming said. "His experience playing at a high level will benefit our team greatly.

"Detwon is very athletic and he has worked hard to develop his overall skills. He is excited to be a Crusader and wants to help us build a strong program over the next two years.

"He is also motivated to receive his degree."

Rogers is the seventh new recruit Flemming brings in for this coming season, joining international players Leor Konenkov, Nikola Prvulj, Gonzalo Santana and Marko Lepovic along with four-year college transfers Kyle Bailey and Dylan Brink.

The Crusaders open the 2015-16 season playing at long-time rival The College of Idaho on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. before hosting Bethesda (Calif.) for homecoming on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m.
