Box Score BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Crusaders gave a valiant effort as they played for the upset, but it just didn't happen Thursday night.
Fifth-ranked Western Washington netted an early goal and never let visiting Northwest Nazarene claw back into the game on the scoreboard, topping the Crusaders, 4-0, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer.
The Crusaders (5-10-1 overall, 2-7-1 GNAC) close out their season Saturday at St. Martin's.
Down a goal, NNU tried to battle its way back into the game as
Ashley Cook-Cox had a scoring chance in the 16
th minute, a shot turned away by Vikings goalkeeper Ashley Haden.
WWU (16-10, 11-0-0) then padded its lead with a goal with 16:59 until halftime, then broke the game open scoring 5:54 into the second half.
The Vikings added a final goal in the 76
th minute, icing the victory.
NNU was outshot 11-3 in shots on goal, and
Daniele Ortiz made seven saves for the Crusaders in net.
