BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Coach Coe Michaelson was in disbelief: Two outstanding performances on the road, and not a win to be had.

The Vikings scored with 2 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first overtime to upset the 12th-ranked Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team Saturday night, the second straight loss for the Crusaders who control played but couldn't put enough balls away for victories.

"I honestly can't believe what happened here tonight," said Michaelson, the Crusader head men's soccer coach. "This is the single most dominating performance in a loss I've ever witnessed.

"The game was cruel to us and it's up to us to show what our character is and respond."

After controlling play of the game against Simon Fraser, but falling 2-0 on Thursday night, the Crusaders (8-3-1 overall, 4-2-1 GNAC) hoped for better at Western Washington.

Again outplaying their opponent, it looked like things might go NNU's way as Julio Castillo netted a pass from teammate Luke Broz with 19:25 left in the game, putting the Crusaders up 1-0.

It wasn't meant to be though.

Just 5:55 later the Vikings tied it, sending the game into an overtime session that ended when Kurtis Pederson finished off a cross from teammate Stephen Jinneman, just the second shot on goal of the game for WWU (4-4-3, 2-3-2).

NNU outshot the Vikings 15-7 overall and 7-2 in shots on goal, yet head home without a win and now must regroup before hitting the road for two more away games, starting with a trip to Montana State Billings on Thursday.
