ELLENSBURG, Wash. — A great day turned bad quickly for the Crusaders.

The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team rallied with a pair of first-half goals to grab a lead over host Central Washington before everything went wrong in the second half of a 6-2 loss in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday afternoon.

"Central Washington finished some great goals," NNU head women's soccer coach Mary Trigg said. "To be up at halftime and have it unravel like we did is disappointing.

"Central Washington was better than us today."

Down a goal early, the Crusaders (4-4-1 overall, 1-2-1 GNAC) responded with a goal by Hannah Holm off an Ashley Cook-Cox assist that tied the score, 1-1, with 19 minutes, 48 seconds gone in the game.

Then, with 7:01 left until halftime, Kayla Williams broke into the Wildcats goal box and blasted home a shot that put the Crusaders on top, 2-1.

The lead lasted a bit more than 11 minutes, as Central Washington (3-5-0, 1-2-0) tied it 4:03 into the second half, then netted the eventual game-winner 8:22 later on a penalty kick.

The Wildcats then tacked on three more goals in the final 45 minutes to ice the victory.

Daniele Ortiz made six saves in goal in the setback for NNU, which looks to bounce back Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. (Mountain Time) when the Crusaders play at No. 24 Seattle Pacific. NNU upset then-No. 11 SPU, 1-0, one week ago in Nampa, Idaho.
