RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Andrea Terpstra pounded down a kill, tying the fourth set. Then Kendra Bodine snapped a late tie with another Crusader blast.

Just two highlights in another determined effort by the Northwest Nazarene volleyball team, which rallied to top Dixie State (Utah) 25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11 early Friday morning on the second day of the GNAC/Pac West Crossover Tournament hosted by Cal Baptist.

Terpstra finished with match-highs of 17 kills and seven blocks for the Crusaders (5-1 overall), while Bodine added 15 kills.

"Andy played great," NNU head volleyball coach Doug English said, adding of Bodine — a true freshman — "Kendra had a couple huge kills at the end of both set four and five for us."

Terpstra's kill late in the fourth tied the set 21-all, thwarting the Red Storm's (2-4) effort to end the match in four sets.

From there, NNU never trailed in the set but needed a Bodine kill to snap a 24-24 tie, then got a kill from Elayna Rice — who finished with 10 kills and 14 digs — to even the match at two sets apiece.

"Elayna came off the bench and gave us some offense and great blocking," English said.

In the decisive fifth set, Andrea Terpstra snapped an 8-8 score with a kill and the Crusaders never looked back, winning their third five-set match in three tries on the young season — including an exhibition win over the College of Idaho on Aug. 29 at home.

Late in the fifth, Bodine provided a kill for a 13-11 NNU edge before she pounded down the match-winner for the Crusaders.

Michelle Terpstra added 50 assists and 17 digs, Taylor Roberts had 29 digs, Kaitlyn Tuholski had five kills and 17 digs and Linnea Phillips added 10 digs for NNU, which returns to action Saturday in the Crossover Tournament, playing Azusa Pacific at 10:30 a.m. (MT) before finishing the weekend against host Cal Baptist at 8:30 p.m. (MT).
