NAMPA, Idaho –
Kyle Thomson vs MSUB
sacrifice fly tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the second, Kaleb DeHaas scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error, and Kyle Thomson made it 3-1 with an RBI single to center in a three-run, second-inning rally.

The 'Jackets (7-19, 6-7) closed to 3-2 down against Vaughn, but a Tyler Marsh RBI single down the right-field line and a safety-squeeze RBI bunt single by Anthony Flatt pushed the Crusaders advantage out to 5-2 after four frames.

More than enough for Vaughn and reliever Nick Bland, who pitched the seventh for his second save.

The win inched NNU head coach Rocke Musgraves one game closer to a big career milestone, too: Win No. 600. Musgraves needs one more victory to reach that milestone, and that win could come Saturday as the Crusaders hosts MSU Billings in another doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for noon.

"I think it's a great thing," Solemsaas said of the milestone, "and I don't think there's any extra pressure on the guys to get the win because Rocke is so humble."

The Crusaders tried to score that milestone win Friday night, despite an early offensive explosion by MSU Billings.

The Yellowjackets forged a 9-2 lead after just an inning and a half in the day's first game, and led 10-2 in the fifth when NNU's offense erupted.

Sam Cook's three-run blast to right field started the comeback, then DeHaas added an RBI double and Jeremy Richardson reached on an infield single that DeHaas scored on, closing the gap to 10-7.

But the comeback ran out of steam as the Yellowjackets plated two in the eighth inning and four more in the ninth to ice the win.

Flatt had a pair of hits in both games Friday for NNU, while Cook, DeHaas and Richardson each had two hits in the opener. Kyle Thomson added a 3-for-4 effort and Ryan Johnson was 2-for-3 for the Crusaders in the nightcap.
