WAIPAHU, Hawaii – The weekend in Hawaii ended much the same way it started for the Crusaders baseball team, without a good result despite plenty of effort.

Freshman Noah Starr led the battled for Northwest Nazarene, pitching five strong innings  for the Crusaders who had chances but simply could not turn them into runs in an 8-1 loss at Hawaii Pacific on Monday.

"I thought we got a great outing from freshman Noah Starr today," NNU baseball coach Rocke Musgraves said. "He really picked the team up."

Tate Glasgow scores
Starr struck out two and scattered six hits over five innings in his collegiate debut for NNU (0-5 overall), which also collected 10 hits and had 16 baserunners.

But the only run the Crusaders mustered came when Tate Glasgow scored on a Nick Morelli ground ball in the top of the second, spotting Starr a 1-0 lead.

The Sea Warriors (5-0) responded with two runs in the fourth, all they could muster against Starr, and tacked on one in the sixth, as NNU still had a chance to charge back in front for the win.

But stranding 12 baserunners hurt the Crusaders comeback hopes.

"We had 16 baserunners and we only scored one run," Musgraves said. "We just need someone to step up."

The Crusaders (0-5) next play at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday.
