BURNABY, British Columbia – Elayna Rice and Taylor VanValey led the way as the No. 19-ranked Northwest Nazarene volleyball team pounded out a 25-21, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21 road win at Simon Fraser in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday night.

"Simon Fraser is a really good team and we are happy to get a victory," NNU head volleyball coach Doug English said.

Rice and VanValey each recorded 14 kills in the win for the Crusaders (13-1 overall, 6-0 GNAC), who won their 12th straight match and got double-digit kills from four players.

"Taylor VanValey had a great night for us on the right, both on offense and blocking," English added.

Kendra Bodine added 11 kills and Andrea Terpstra had 10 kills for NNU, which next plays at No. 11 Western Washington on Saturday.

In the opening set, a VanValey kill snapped a 6-6 tie as the Crusaders slowly pulled away, taking a 20-14 edge on an Andi Terpstra kill en route to the win.

A Bodine kill put NNU on top 15-10 in the second set before the Clan (9-5, 3-3) rallied, evening the match at a set apiece headed to the mid-match intermission.

The Crusaders responded by dominating the third set with an 11-1 run sparked by a Bodine kill midway through the set.

NNU then closed out the victory as a Rice kill broke a 13-13 tie in the fourth set, and a Bodine kill pushed the Crusaders lead to 21-17 en route to the four-set win.

Rice, the reigning GNAC Offensive Player of the Week, contributed much more than offense for the Crusaders as she had 20 digs and a team-high seven blocks, as well.

Terpstra added six blocks for NNU, while her sister, Michelle Terpstra, dished out 47 assists and added 17 digs.

Libero Taylor Roberts contributed 30 digs, Kaitlyn Tuholski made 12 digs and Linnea Phillips had 10 digs for the Crusaders.

"Our defense was great tonight," English said. "Taylor Roberts, Michelle Terpstra and Linnea Phillips kept us in so many rallies."
