Box Score BURNABY, B.C. — The race for the playoffs is underway for the Crusaders, and Thursday they took their first step toward the postseason with a road win in Canada.
Makena Dandley scored her first collegiate goal and
Laura Seymour iced the Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team's 2-0 victory with a late goal at Simon Fraser in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
"It's always a battle to play on the road," said NNU head women's soccer coach
Mary Trigg. "We fought hard today and were disciplined. It was a great team win."
Lexi Fesenbek — who leads the GNAC in total assists — added to her playmaking total, setting up both goals to give her 10 assists on the season.
First, Fesenbek sent a corner kick into the box that Dandley headed home for what proved to be the game-winner with 18 minutes, 16 seconds gone in the second half.
That lead held up until the final 38 seconds when Seymour booted home a cross from Fesenbek to ice the victory for the Crusaders (4-6-3 overall, 3-5-1 GNAC).
Daniele Ortiz made five saves in goal for NNU, earning her third shutout of the season.
The Crusaders drive to the postseason next heads to Bellingham, Wash., where NNU plays at Western Washington on Saturday, wrapping up a four-game road trip.
