Crusaders Sweep The Yellow Jackets at Valle Field

NAMPA, Idaho – With the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament around the corner, the Northwest Nazarene University baseball team earned two wins against Montana State University Billings in today's double header action at Valle Field in Nampa, Idaho.
 
After four innings of play the Crusaders found themselves trailing 11-2. The Yellow Jackets scored eight runs to open up a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the seventh-inning, the Crusaders brought in two runs before a grand slam hit by Fernando Robles, which pulled NNU within three.
 
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jon Matos brought in two-runs after a hit to left field. Sam Cook hit a ball to the right field wall that brought in the game-winning run and pulled the Crusaders up 12-11. NNU would score one more run and hold on to take a 13-11 victory in game one.  Pitcher Jake Ferdinand received the win on the mound for the Crusaders.
 
In game two, Logan Parker was a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate with 3 RBI's to help lead the Crusaders to a 7-2 win. Sam Cook was 1-2 with 2 RBI's. After five innings pitched, Nick Bland earned his third win on the mound for NNU.
 
NNU improves to 20-23 overall and 11-15 in GNAC action. Both teams will be back on the field tomorrow for double-header play, beginning at Noon. In partnership with St. Luke's M.S.T.I, the NNU baseball team will be hosting the second annual Cancer Awareness Day. Pre-Game festivities will begin at 11:30.
