Crusaders Sweep Toros in Nampa

NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University baseball team swept Cal State University Dominguez Hills in today's non-conference double-header held at Vail Field on the campus of NNU. The Crusaders won game one 14-4 and held on for a 4-2 victory in today's final game.

In today's opening game, with the score tied 2-2 after four innings of play, the Crusaders used a 7-run fifth inning to pull ahead of the Toros. With the bases loaded and only one out, shortstop Jon Matos hit a grand slam over the left field wall to pull the Crusaders up 6-2. After back to back doubles in the eighth inning by Jamie Mitchell and Jon Matos, Greg Hata hit a three-run homerun over left field for his second homerun of the game.  NNU would shut-out the Dominguez Hills in the
final inning to earn the 14-4 victory.

Matos was 3 for 5 at the plate with 5 RBI's. Hata went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI's. Junior Logan Parker was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's for the Crusaders.

Skyler Souza earned the win on the mound for NNU, improving to 2-0 for the year. 

In the final game of the series at Vail Field the Crusaders came out on top 4-2.

Robles was 2 for 3 from the plate and had 2 RBI's. Mitchell went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI for the Crusaders.

Aaron Vaughn threw a complete game, earning the win on the mound and jumps to 4-3 on the year.

The Crusaders who are now 17-16 overall and 8-8 in conference play will be back to GNAC action next Monday when they travel to Ellensburg, Washington to face Central Washington University for a four game series beginning at 1:00 p.m. (PST).
