MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Wolves of Western Oregon University completed a four game sweep after taking 7-3 and 9-1 victories over the Northwest Nazarene University Crusader baseball team in Monmouth, Oregon.
With the scored tied 2-2, the conference leading Wolves used a five-run sixth inning to pull ahead and hold on to get a 7-3 win in game one.
David Scott was 3 for 4 at the plate to help lead WOU. After seven innings pitched, A.J. Burke earned the win on the mound for the Wolves, improving to 4-3 on the year.
Jon Matos had 3 hits with his 5 plate appearances while teammate
Fernando Robles was 2 for 5 with 1 RBI.
Aaron Vaughn received the loss on the mound after five innings pitched.
In game two, the Crusaders were held to five hits as Zach Nuno earned the win on the mound for the Wolves after pitching a complete seven-inning game.
Nick Bland dropped to 2-3 on the mound after five innings pitched for NNU.
The Crusaders fall to 18-23 overall and 9-15 in GNAC play. NNU will be back in action next weekend when they host Montana State University Billings for a four game series at Valle Field in Nampa, Idaho. On Saturday, in partnership with St. Luke's Mountain State Tumor Institute the Crusaders will host the third annual Cancer Awareness Day at Valle Field. Pre-game festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with the first pitched scheduled for noon.
