NAMPA, Idaho - Late-game heroics again powered the Northwest Nazarene baseball team past Saint Martin's University this afternoon at Vail Field as the Crusaders won game one 8-6 with a five-run seventh-inning rally and then stole the nightcap 9-8, scoring seven in the bottom of the seventh.

Trailing 6-2 into the bottom of the seventh with two outs in the opener, Kaleb DeHaas and Charlie Gorzo pounded back-to-back solo home runs off SMU starter Josh Moss to start the game-winning rally.  Anthony LaDue entered for the Saints and walked Crusader catcher Jamie Mitchell and Jon Matos before giving way to Anthony Klonitsko.  Fernando Robles promptly singled off Klonitsko to plate Mitchell and then Sam Cook doubled to bring home both Robles and Matos for what would stand as the game-winning runs.

NNU reliever Andrew Groves (2-1) earned the win and LaDue (0-2) took the loss for the Saints.

Both Cook and Robles finished 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI's for the Crusaders as Robles also smacked a solo home run in the fourth.  Mitchell joined Robles with a solo home run in the sixth.

Saint Martin's (3-27, 1-14 GNAC) was led by Chris Womac and Travis Shaw who each went 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Game two saw the Saints jump out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning as SMU had five hits in the frame, highlighted by Chandler Tracy's grand-slam home run over the centerfield wall.  It was Tracy's GNAC-leading ninth dinger of the year.

The Saints added one in the fourth and two in the fifth and led 8-0 going into the bottom of the fifth.

NNU cut the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth as a two-out double by Logan Parker followed a walk to Jake Ferdinand.  Pinch-hitter Barak Frank then walked and Gorzo earned an RBI with a bases-loaded walk off SMU starter Brad Banker.  Mitchell then singled to left field, scoring Parker from third before Matos lined out to the left fielder to end the threat.

A scoreless sixth pushed the Crusaders down to their final three outs yet again, and the Crusaders answered with seven runs on seven hits in their final at-bat.

RBI singles by Mitchell, Matos, Skyler Souza and Greg Hata set up a showdown between NNU pinch-hitter Tate Glasgow and SMU reliever Chase DeCoito.  Less than 24 hours earlier Glasgow hit the walk-off two-run home run that won the nightcap for NNU off DeCoito and Glasgow delivered again, this time with a single to left field that scored Souza and tied the game at 8-8.

Parker then faced SMU reliever Kolitsko and walked in his second at-bat of the inning to load the bases and Cook delivered his second game-winning hit of the day, a pinch-hit line drive off Klonitsko's lower leg that brought Hata home from third.

The Crusaders improve to 14-15 overall with the victories and are now 8-8 in GNAC action.  Jon Matos (2-2) earned the win for NNU and DeCoito (1-6) took the loss.  Parker finished game two 4 for 4 and Mitchell was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI's.

NNU will return to action on Monday and Tuesday, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills in an NCAA Division II West Region non-conference four-game series at Vail Field.  Monday's games begin at 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday's begin at Noon.
