Crusaders Split With Wildcats In Home Opener

NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University baseball team split with Central Washington University in today's Great Northwest Athletic Conference home opener held at Vail Field in Nampa, Idaho.
 
In game one the Wildcats of CWU came out on top 4-2.
 
In the top of the sixth inning, with the scored tied 1-1, Kyle Sani of Central Washington hit a 2-run homerun over the left field wall to pull the Wildcats up 3-1. CWU would get one more run in the seventh inning of play.
 
NNU scored in the fifth inning after a homerun by Greg Hata. Logan Parker would hit a single up the middle to bring Hata home in the seventh inning to give the Crusaders their only other run.
 
Hata led the Crusaders at the plate going 3 for 4 with 1 RBI. Jon Matos went 2 for 4 for NNU.
 
Aaron Vaughn received the loss in game one dropping to 2-2 on the year.
 
In game two the Crusaders held on to win 8-6.
 
Jamie Mitchell led Crusaders at the plate going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Logan Parker was 2 for 4 at the plate.
 
Tyler Marsh earned his first win of the year on the mound going to 1-0. Matos recieved his third save of the season. 
 
The Crusaders go to 7-8 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play. The Wildcats now are 5-9 overall and 1-1 in conference action. Both teams will be back for double-header action tomorrow beginning at noon at Vail Field on the Campus of NNU.
