NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team used a balanced attack to hold off Simon Fraser University 81-75 in tonight's Great Northwest Athletic Conference match up.
Kevin Rima led the Crusaders with a double-double performance, scoring 18 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Rima was 5 of 10 from the floor and 8 of 9 from the free-throw line.
“Kevin had a monster night and really willed us to victory tonight,” commented head coach
Dave Daniels.
“It was a very challenging game tonight,” said Daniels, “we had a lot of guys banged up and sick so I was really proud of how the guys battled through and continued to fight to the very end. “
Kenny Jones added 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting.
Jonathan Hawkins had 14 points and dished out 4 assists. Senior
Jordan Nicholes had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
Anto Olah had a game-high 20 points for the Clan on 8 of 12 shooting from the floor. Matt Raivio added 16 while Dillon Hamilton had 13 for SFU. The Clan fell to 6-15 overall and 1-12 in GNAC play.
NNU was 25 of 56 (44.6-percent) from the floor and 25 of 29 (86.2-percent) from the charity stripe. The Crusaders out-rebounded the Clan 42-32. SFU was 30 of 69 (43.5-percent) from the field and 7 of 22 (31.8-percent) from beyond the three point line.
With the win, the Crusaders snap their 7-game losing streak and jump to 10-11 overall and 4-9 in GNAC action. NNU will travel to Billings, Montana next Thursday to face the Yellow Jackets of Montana State University Billings at 7:00 p.m. on the campus of MSUB.
