OAKLAND, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene University baseball team swept the Hawks of Holy Names University in Saturday's double-header action in Oakland, California.
The Crusaders took game one 9-5.
In the fifth inning
Fernando Robles hit a grand slam off of HNU pitcher Zach Korte. The Crusaders scored 6 runs in the inning to pull ahead of the Hawks 6-5.
Logan Parker,
Jeremy Richardson and
Sam Cook were all 2 for 4 from the plate and had one RBI.
Jeremy Burk (1-0) earned his first win of the season in 4 innings pitched.
In game two the Crusaders came out on top 6-4.
All six runs for NNU came in the first inning of play.
Jon Matos and Parker both went 2 for 4 and each had an RBI. Catcher Jamie Mithcell was 2 for 3 from the plate.
Tyler Marsh was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's.
Fernando Robles earned the win on the mound giving up 3 runs that came in the fifth inning.
NNU improves to 3-1 after opening weekend and will now travel to Hawaii Pacific University to play five games beginning Thursday the 14
th and going through to Monday the 18
th.
