WAIPAHU, Hawaii – The Northwest Nazarene University baseball team defeated Hawaii Pacific University 10-3 in an NCAA Div. II West Region game held at the Hans L'Orange Field in Waipahu.
With solid pitching performances from
Aaron Vaughn and
Ryan Kuhn, the Crusaders improve to a 4-1 record.
Vaughn pitched 8 innings for NNU allowing 7 hits with no walks on the day.
Logan Parker led the Crusaders at the plate going 3 for 6.
Jamie Mitchell was 2 for 4 and
Fernando Robles brought in three runs.
“We were outstanding on the mound today,” commented head coach Tim Onofrei, “it was a very strong performance on our side against a team that is going to be really solid this year.”
The Crusaders opened up their two-run lead in the seventh inning when NNU was able to bring in five runs on four hits to extend the lead to seven. The team would hold on to their 10-3 lead to capture game one of a five game series in Waipahu.
Kale Sumner led Hawaii Pacific at the plate, going 2 for 3 on the day with 1 RBI.
Both teams will be back on the field for double-header action tomorrow starting at 4:00 p.m. on the Hans L'Orange field in Waipahu.
