BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team fell short in a defensive battle against No. 5 nationally-ranked Western Washington University 61-49 in tonight's Great Northwest Athletic Conference match-up. 
 
The Crusaders, who were only down two at the end of the first period, were unable to get past the Vikings of WWU. Both teams struggled from the floor as NNU was 18 of 52 overall and WWU was 20 of 48 from the field. The Crusaders held the Vikings to their lowest point total this season at 61.
 
Kevin Rima led the Crusaders with 12 points and 8 rebounds while senior 
Jonathan Hawkins had 9 points and 3 assists.
 
The Vikings had four players in double-figures; Austin Bragg led WWU with 14 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. Richard Woodworth and Paul Jones each had 11 points while Cameron Severson had 10.
 
NNU, which now goes to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in GNAC play was 10 of 22 from the foul line. Both teams were even at 35 rebounds each. The Vikings were 18 of 27 from the foul line.
 
NNU will be back to home action next Thursday at 7:00 p.m. as they host Seattle Pacific University at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa, Idaho.
