Crusaders Win Final Match In Route 92 Showdown

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team dropped their morning match to Fresno Pacific but came back this afternoon and defeated Cal State East Bay, in the final day of the Route 92 Showdown.
 
In the first match this morning the Crusaders were swept by Fresno Pacific 25-22, 26-24, 25-19.
 
Heather Allen led the Crusaders with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .600. Linnea Phillips had a match high with 10 digs. Michelle Terpstra also had a match high with 34 assists.
 
Kara Mitchell led Fresno Pacific with 15 kills on 30 attempts. 
 
The Crusaders had 16 blocks as Fresno Pacific had 9. 
 
In today's final match the Crusaders went five games with Cal State East Bay but came out with the win 25-22, 25-14, 29-31, 19-25, 15-13. 
 
Becky Flores led the Crusaders with a match high 25 kills on 43 attempts. Heather Allen had another good performance on the day as she added14 kills. Michelle Terpstra had a match high 53 assists along with 13 digs. Freshman Linnea Phillips had a match high of 33 digs. 
 
"Nine matches in seven days is a lot. Now that we are through it, we have learned who we are." commented head coach Jared Sliger. "Our middles were great all weekend and our defense came on when we needed it."

After the Route 92 Showdown the Crusaders are now 6-3 overall. 
 
The Crusaders will begin GNAC action next week as they travel to Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday to take on the Nanooks at 7 p.m.
