Crusaders Split in Day Two of Route 92 Showdown

BELMONT, Calif. - The Northwest Nazarene University women's volleyball team split in two games today, defeating Humboldt State in game one and losing to California Baptist in game two at the Route 92 Showdown held in Belmont, California. 
 
In the Crusaders' first game of the Route 92 Showdown they swept Humboldt State University 25-20, 25-22, 25-23. 
 
Becky Flores led NNU with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .500. Setter Michelle Terpstra had a double-double; she tallied 29 assists and 12 digs. Linnea Phillips had a match high of 25 digs.

The Crusaders had 42 kills, 39 assists and 60 digs for the match. The Lumberjacks had 38 kills, 36 assists and 55 digs as a team.
 
In game two, the Crusaders battled through five games but came up short losing 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 12-15.
 
"I would like to think we were the better team, but the scoreboard didn't show that tonight. We have set the bar high for the program this season." commented head coach Jared Sliger. "We will bounce back tomorrow and keep learning about who we are." 
 
Senior Becky Flores had 16 kills on 27 attempts, while Elayna Rice had 11 kills with 9 digs. Kaitlyn Tuholksi had a match high 18 digs and also added 10 kills.
 
Michelle Terpstra had 47 assists and 8 digs."I thought we did a lot of good things and played well as a team today. It was a tough loss tonight but we are learning from our mistakes and are getting a lot better each game" commented Terpstra. 
 
Ingrid Carmona led the Lancers with 22 kills and 11 digs. Setter Jordyn Siko had a match high 49 assists.
 
The Crusaders will be back for day two of the Route 92 Showdown tomorrow as they face Fresno Pacific at 9 a.m. and Cal State East Bay at 2 p.m.
