BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team lost 4-0 against Western Washington University in tonight's Great Northwest Athletic Conference soccer match in Bellingham, Washington.
The Vikings' Stephanie Hamilton led the team with two goals on three attempts. WWU got on the board in the 18
th minute of play as Hamilton was able to score on a 22 yard shot. Hamilton again scored five minutes later as Catherine Miles crossed a ball in and Hamilton was able to convert from 18 yards out. The Vikings would go into the half up 2-0.
Five minutes into the second period Kristen Maris was able to score her sixth goal of the season after a through ball from Joana Houplin, Maris scored from 12 yards out to the far post. In the 65
th minute Joana Houplin scored a goal of her own as she controlled a rebound and scored from 5 yards out to put the Vikings up 4-0. WWU would hold on and shut out the Crusaders to earn their fourth conference win.
"Our girls battled well today, losing to a quality Western team but really showing a lot of quality ourselves." Commented head coach Jamie Lindvall "I thought we put together some great combination plays but just couldn't quite break through."
The Crusaders had five shots while the Vikings had 14 with 9 on target.
The Crusaders fall to 4-5-0 overall and 1-4-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference competition. The Vikings now go to 7-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play.
NNU will now travel to Burnaby, BC to face Simon Fraser University on Saturday at 12 p.m.
