NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team dropped their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference match 3-0 to Central Washington University today in Nampa.
"I felt like we started the game out really well and had a great second half. Unfortunately we didn't get on the board early and we allowed three goals in the first half, which were three great goals by Central Washington." commented head coach Jamie Lindvall "We changed some things in the second and we controlled a lot of the play. We had some great opportunities, but were not able to convert.
The Wildcats scored in the 12th minute of play as Kelsy Villegas earned her fourth goal of the season with an acrobatic shot from five yards out that got CWU on the board 1-0. Seven minutes later Tarah Duty converted on a free kick from 35 yards out to put the Wildcats up 2-0 . In the 24th minute Carson Mckole dribbled up the right side of the field and was able to send the ball home from 10 yards out. CWU would go into the half up 3-0.
Both teams went scoreless in the second half. NNU was able to get off five shots in the second period but were not successful on the attempts.
NNU out-shot CWU seven to six. Central Washington had 18 fouls to the Crusaders 10.
Tanya Zickefoose recieved the loss and is now 3-2 overall. Kayla Lipston earned the win and is now 2-1-1.
The Crusaders fall to 0-1 in conference and 3-2 overall. The Wildcats jump to 1-0 in conference and 2-2-1 overall.
"In this conference every game is a battle. I feel that this year every team has a chance at beating anybody. I am very excited for our game on Saturday against SPU, I feel that our girls match up very well and will compete with any team in the GNAC." said Lindvall
The Crusaders will be at home Saturday to take on Seattle Pacific at Noon.
