Crusader Volleyball Splits In Day 2 of Seaside Invitational

SAN DIEGO, CA - The Northwest Nazarene University volleyball team split games in the final day of the Point Loma Seaside Invitational.

The Crusaders started the morning sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills (25-20, 25-19, 25-21). NNU was led by Heather Allen and Becky Flores. Allen had 12 kills with a .526 hitting percentage while Flores also had 12 kills with a .423 hitting percentage. 

Setter Michelle Terpstra had 34 assists. Freshman Linnea Phillips had a match high 14 digs while Taylor Roberts had 10 of her own. 

In tonight's match up the Crusaders were swept by Azusa Pacific (19-25, 17-25, 24-26).

Becky Flores had 12 kills as Michelle Terpstra had 32 assists. Taylor Roberts led the team with eight assists. 

The Cougars were led by Joy Reinke's 13 kills. Sophie Burns had a match high 35 assists and 12 digs. 

The Crusaders start the 2012 season with a 3-1 record after this weekend's play.

"This was a great tournament for us. Preseason tournaments are all about learning who you are as a team." Commented head coach Jared Sliger. " We learned some important lessons. Now we have a couple days to tune it up and do it again."

The Crusaders will be back to the court Thursday as they take part in the Notre Dame DeNamur Tournament in Belmont, California.
