NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team opened up the 2012 season with a 2-0 win over Eastern Oregon University.

The Crusaders came out strong to start the game as senior Sarah Staropoli scored from an assist from Kellynn McDaniel in the seventh minute of play. Staropoli was five yards out as she was able to knock in her first goal of the year. NNU held out the half giving up only three shots.

"We didn't come out in the first half exactly like I would have liked to seen," commented head coach Jamie Lindvall. " We came out in the second half playing more aggresive and spreading the field more. We started to combine passes and pressure really well."

The Crusader defense remained solid throughout the second half  giving up only one shot the entire period.

In the 67th minute from an assist from Staropoli, Jenny Field was able to knock in a goal to put the Crusaders up 2-0.

NNU out-shot EOU 12 to 3 in the match. The Crusaders had 16 fouls as the Mountaineers had 3.

Tanya Zickefoose earned her first win of the season as keeper, while Eastern Oregon's Kailey Moss recieved the loss.

The Crusaders go to 1-0-0 to start the season off as they now travel to San Francisco to take on Academy of Art on Saturday and Notre Dame DeNamur on Monday.

"I really liked what I saw from the team going into this weekend," commented Lindvall. "Going against two schools from the Pac-West is going to be a really good test for us to start the season."
