ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene baseball team defeated Central Washington University 15-1 in the opening game of a GNAC doubleheader in Ellensburg this afternoon. However, the Wildcats bounced right back and defeated the Crusaders 10-1 in game two.
NNU's
Zeb Sneed (5-3) tossed seven and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball to open the series and earned his fifth win of the season. The Crusaders supported the performance, scoring 15 runs with 14 hits, taking advantage of four walks and seven Wildcat errors.
Logan Parker led the Crusaders (16-13, 5-7 GNAC) at the plate, going 4 for 6 with two RBI's.
Derek Bettinson,
Charlie Gorzo and
Kaleb DeHaas each had two hits and Gorzo, DeHaas,
Ben Clare and
Fernando Robles joined Parker with two RBI's each.
The Crusaders matched the Wildcats (11-15, 7-7 GNAC) with nine hits each in game two, but NNU stranded nine runners on base in scoring just one run.
Leading 2-1 into the sixth, Central Washington plated eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to take control.
Charles Pollock (4-2) took the pitching loss, striking out six but surrendering four earned runs on four hits and three walks in five innings.
Robles finished game two 3 for 3 at the plate and both DeHaas and
Sean McDonald added two hits each.
The teams will return to action tomorrow at Noon for another GNAC doublheader.
