NAMPA, Idaho - Zach Steele's sixth-inning solo home run powered the Northwest Nazarene University baseball team to a 1-0 conference victory over Montana State University Billings this afternoon in the opening game of a twinbill at Vail Field.

NNU claimed game two 13-2 to complete the doubleheader sweep and improve to 13-9 overall and 2-4 in GNAC action.

Steele's blast to left field gave NNU game one starter Zeb Sneed (4-2) all the offense he needed as Sneed worked six shutout innings and Aaron Vaughn earned his first save with three innings of scoreless relief.

Samuel Paterson (0-3) took the loss for the Yellowjackets.  Paterson pitched effectively, surrendering just six hits to the Crusaders, but MSUB could not generate any run support for the lefty.

Steele was the only player to record multiple hits in the opener, going 2 for 4 with the game winning RBI.  The Crusader pitching duo held the 'Jackets to five singles.

Game Two

Tied at 2-2 after the top of the second, the Crusaders scored four in the third and six in the fourth to cruise to a 13-2 victory in game two.

Charles Pollock (3-1) earned the win, giving up only four hits in 5 2/3 innings.  Freshman Nate Forseth closed out the final four outs in the non-save situation.

Logan Parker finished 4 for 4 with three RBI's to lead the Crusaders 12-hit attack.  Sean McDonald and Derek Bettinson each had two hits and Bettinson, Steele (1 for 2) and Ben Clare (1 for 4) had two RBI's.

Justin Harcharik went 2 for 4 to lead MSUB at the plate and starter Matt Eames (0-1) took the loss.

The teams will complete the four-game series tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
