NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University baseball team led 11-2 after three innings but could not hold on as the College of Idaho completed the comeback for a 13-11 non-conference victory this afternoon at Vail Field.
Zach Fabricius (4-1) earned the win in relief for The C of I (17-6) while Zach Morse (0-1) took the loss for the Crusaders.
NNU pounded out 13 hits in the first three innings, but Taylor Nicholson entered in relief of Josh Orr and silenced the Crusader bats until Fabricius closed out the final three innings.
The C of I scored three in the fifth, five in the sixth, tied the game in the seventh and took the lead with a pair of runs in the eighth.
Sean McDonald led the Crusaders at the plate, going 4 for 6 with three RBI's and
Derek Bettinson finished 3 for 3.
Charlie Gorzo hit a three-run home run in the second.
Izaac Garsez and Tanner Hodges each finished with four hits for the Coyotes.
The Crusaders and Coyotes will complete the four-game season series on March 27th at Wolfe Field in Caldwell. C of I leads the season-series 2-1.
