LACEY, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene men's basketball team fell at Saint Martin's University 84-76 tonight in the final Great Northwest Athletic Conference game of the season for both teams at Marcus Pavilion in Lacey.
JB Pillard led the Crusaders, who finish the season 12-14 overall and 6-12 in GNAC play, with a 21 point - 10 rebound double-double. Both
Anthony Golden and
Keith Moilanen scored 15 and
Jonathan Hawkins added 11.
Jeremy Green paced the Saints (10-17, 6-12 GNAC) with a game-high 32 points and 11 rebounds. Brok Pendleton added 18, Brady Bomber scored 12 and Ryan Votaw had 10.
Trailing 37-26 at the half and down 79-68 with 1:25 to play, the Crusaders made the game interesting in the final seconds with an 8-1 run as Golden knocked home back-to-back three-pointers and Hawkins converted a lay-in to pull the Crusaders to within four at 80-76 with 40-seconds to play.
The Saints converted free throws to seal the win as Votaw was one of two, Pendleton went two for two and Green was one of two in the final 35-seconds. NNU missed two three-point attempts in their final two possessions.
Only the top-six teams in the GNAC qualify for the post-season tournament. Both NNU and Saint Martin's finish tied for seventh in the GNAC at 6-12.
