Pillard and Hawkins lead Crusaders past Simon Fraser

NAMPA, Idaho - JB Pillard scored a game and season-high 29 points to lead the Northwest Nazarene men's basketball team past Simon Fraser University 84-78 tonight in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Johnson Sports Center.

Pillard scored 29 and Jonathan Hawkins added 20 on eight of 10 shooting from the floor.  A trio of Crusaders scored 10 points in Jordan Nicholes, Anthony Golden and Michael Kurimsky.

Kurimsky and Pillard led NNU with eight rebounds each as the Crusaders out-rebounded SFU 34-28.

Justin Brown paced the Clan (8-16, 3-13 GNAC) with 23 points.  Conner Lewis and John Bantock led a three-point charge from SFU as Lewis hit five triples to score 22 and Bantock made four to score 14.  SFU hit 14 three-pointers on the night on 14 of 29 shooting from the arc.

The Crusaders shot 53.2-percent (33-62) from the floor and improved to 12-12 overall and 6-10 in conference play.

NNU honored senior Anthony Golden prior to tip-off as the four-year Crusader played his final home game at the Johnson Sports Center.

The Crusaders will play the final two regular-season games on the road next weekend as they battle for a GNAC post-season tournament bid, playing at Western Oregon on Thursday and at Saint Martin's on Saturday.  Both games tip-off at 7:00 p.m. PT.
