Crusaders Top The Saints 66-65 in OT

LACEY, Wash. – Kenny Jones threw in a dunk in the final seconds of overtime to help lift the Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team past Saint Martin's University 66-65 in tonight's Great Northwest Athletic Conference match-up.
 
Jones drove past the SMU defense and was able to put down a one-handed dunk with just .04-seconds remaining in overtime. The transfer out of UCLA, Jones finished the game with 23 points on 7 of 16 shooting from the floor and 9 of 10 from the foul line. Senior Jonathan Hawkins added 16 points on 4 of 5 shooting from beyond the three-point line while also grabbing six rebounds.
 
“I'm extremely proud of how the guys battled in the second half, we showed a lot of heart and determination!” commented head coach Dave Daniels, “Jordan Nicholes got us going on the defensive end and Kenny (Jones) and (Jonathan) Hawkins made play after play when we needed it.”
 
Rei Jensen had a game-high of 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Saints. Jensen was 12 of 19 from the floor. Evan Coulter had 13 points on 3 of 7 from beyond the arc and also pulled down 7 rebounds for SMU.
 
The Crusaders now jump to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play. NNU was 23 of 59 (39-percent) from the floor and 12 of 15 (80-percent) from the foul line.  SMU shot 26 of 66 (39.4-percent) from the field and 7 of 14 (50-percent) from the foul line. 
 
NNU will now return home to face The College of Idaho on Tuesday at 7:07 p.m. for game two of the United Heritage Insurance Mayor's Cup held at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa, Idaho.
