NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University men's soccer team defeated the University of Mary 3-0 in the Crusaders final home match of the 2012 season.

The Crusaders (8-4-5, 7-2-4 GNAC) were able to use three second-half goals to top the Marauders in today's Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.

“Today we were a bit flat in our attacking play first half but we really responded well in the second half.” Commented head coach Coe Michaelson. “I thought Johnny (DiLulo), Emerson (Peredo) and Evan (Horwood) sparked us to life and Chris Voth was his hard working dependable self, so to see him get a goal on senior day was fantastic!”

Both teams were scoreless in the first half. NNU had four shots while UM had 2.

In the 61st minute of play senior Stephen Marshall took a goal kick and was able to find John DiLulo, DiLulo then crossed the ball from the right side to find Emerson Peredo as Peredo converted on the shot to put the Crusaders on the board 1-0.

Fifteen minutes later DiLulo would receive a cross from Evan Horwood and put a shot in from five yards out putting NNU up 2-0.

Senior Chris Voth scored his third goal of the season in his final home game at NNU. DiLulo once again earned an assist after heading the ball to Voth. Voth then took a shot from 10 yards out and was successful on the attempt giving the Crusaders their third and final goal.

NNU outshot UM 15 to 6. Alfredo Ontiveros had three saves for the Crusaders while Nenad Skenderovic had six saves for the Marauders.

“I'm thrilled for our seniors, they were a very influential group for our program and they really are full of character as young men.” Said Michaelson.

NNU jumps to 8-4-5 overall and 7-2-4 in GNAC play. U. of Mary drops to 4-10-3 overall and 3-8-2 in conference action.

NNU will travel to Montana State University Billings on Saturday to play their final regular season GNAC match. With the win NNU has sole possession of second-place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
