#1 West Region Clan Defeat Crusaders 3-1

NAMPA, Idaho – NCAA West Region top seed Simon Fraser University used three second half goals to defeat the Crusaders 3-1 in today's Great Northwest Athletic conference men's soccer match.
 
The Crusaders were able to convert early as they scored in the 17th minute of play. Senior Sal Sanchez scored on a laser shot from 18 yards out to get the Crusaders on the board 1-0. Daniel Clark played a ball to Chris Voth on the left side of the field; Voth then was able to find Sanchez center field to convert the Crusaders only goal.

NNU would hold defensively the remainder of the first half holding the Clan scoreless 1-0.

"We were great for 65 minutes and we had our chances to bury the game throughout the second half up to that point." commented head coach Coe Michaelson. "But we didn't and great teams like Simon will make you pay."
 
Michael Winter would net his fourth goal of the season in the 64th minute for the Clan. Winter was able to convert on a sliding attempt to the far post to get the teams even 1-1.
 
Seven minutes later Carlo Basso would convert on a shot from 20 yards out to earn his 11th goal of the season and also get the Clan up 2-1. Chris Bargholz netted his fifth goal of the year four minutes later as he was able to convert on a header from five yards out to put SFU up 3-1.
 
The Clan had 12 shots while NNU had 9. Alfredo had four saves for the Crusaders while Hide Ozawa had 6 for the Clan.

"We have four games and I believe fokur wins will put us into the NCAA"s. So we have no time to feel bad. We will get some guys back on the field and give it everything we've got." said Michaelson.  

NNU is now 7-3-4 overall and receive their first conference loss dropping them to 6-1-3. SFU jumps to 13-1-0 overall and 9-1-0 in GNAC action.
 
The Crusaders will host Western Washington University this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Nampa.
