NAMPA, Idaho - Danielle Reese posted a match-best 13 kills as the Western Oregon University volleyball team defeated Northwest Nazarene in four sets tonight at the Johnson Sports Center 25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 25-22.
The Crusaders (10-10, 3-6 GNAC) were led by
Becky Flores with 12 kills and
Elayna Rice with 10.
Michelle Terpstra led all setters with 42 assists and
Linnea Phillips was the top defensive player on the court with 18 digs.
Western Oregon (12-5, 5-3 GNAC) hit .295 in the match as both Reese and Krissi Kemper reached double-digits as Kemper added 11 kills. Reese hit .500 and Kemper was at .550 in the four-set affair.
"All anyone wants to talk about is our amazing run in game four...All I want to talk about is where was that in the first three games," commented NNU head coach Jared Sliger. "Western Oregon played a really clean match, but the Crusaders are not going to beat anyone making 52 unforced errors."
Down 18-11 in the fourth set, the Crusaders rallied, forcing two WOU time-outs and pulled to within one at 22-23 after an attack error by Samantha Ward. However back-to-back kills by LesLyne Satele and Kemper put the match away for the Wolves and ended the comeback bid.
"On the bright side, Rice played very well," Sliger added. Rice added one block and eight digs to her stat line and was the top Crusader attacker as she hit .348 with only three errors on the night.
Wearing all pink on Dig Pink Night, the Crusader crowd participated in a contest to see which dorm on campus could fill the student section with the most pink. The winner was Ford Hall and they took home the much-coveted Pink Feather Jacket, the trophy awarded each year to the winner residence hall (Pictured).
The Crusaders will return to the road next week, traveling to Simon Fraser University on Thursday and Western Washington University on Saturday.
