Dylan Coffee recorded his first collegiate goal this afternoon as the Northwest Nazarene University men's soccer team defeated The College of Idaho 1-0 in the Canyon County rivalry game at the NNU Soccer Field.
Coffee (Fr., Syracuse, UT) converted the games only tally in the 19th-minute, scoring from 18-yards away inside the right post.
Jose Oregon's cross set the table for Coffee and
Christian Adamson also earned an assist as he played the ball forward up the sideline to Oregon.
"They (C of I) worked very hard today and at the end of the day we are happy to come away with the victory," commented NNU head coach
Coe Michaelson. "Being three matches into the season now, I'm happy with where we are at. Now we need to get our legs recovered and get ready for Saturday."
Today's match marks the fifth-straight victory over C of I for the Crusaders.
"Dylan had a great first college goal...it was a nice effort," Michaelson added. "And both Stephen (Marshall) and Zander (Engeman) were huge. Stephen played big all day for us back there and Zander had a couple great saves in the second half."
The College of Idaho (1-3-0) finished with a 13-10 shot advantage over NNU (3-0-0) and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
C of I goalkeeper Aaron Reynolds allowed one goal with three saves and Colin Benham-Marin had one save in the second half. NNU goalkeepers Mitch Rice (4 saves) and Engeman (3 saves) combined for the shutout.
The Crusaders will rest and prepare to host The University of Mary on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
