LACEY, Wash. - Xan Nixon scored in the 97th-minute to lead Saint Martin's University past the Crusaders 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match in Lacey, Washington.
Nixon scored the opening goal of the game in just the 2nd-minute and Dylan Gaydosh put the Saint's ahead 2-0 with a goal in the 21st-minute.
"Unfortunately today we have not shown that we learned anything from Thursday," commented NNU head coach
Coe Michaelson. "To our credit, we were exceptional in the second half. We controlled the game and scored two nice goals, but our first half has once again put us in this situation because once overtime hits, anything can happen."
"If we can figure out how to play a complete game and not simply a second half, we will be much more successful."
Ben Mangeac and
Sal Sanchez each scored in the second half for the Crusaders. Mangeac found the net in the 50th-minute off assists by
Alex Mangeac and Sanchez, while Sanchez scored with an assist from
Christian Adamson.
SMU held a 20-18 edge in shots and the Crusaders offered five corners to SMU's three.
NNU will return to action next Thursday, hosting Western Washington University at 5:30 p.m. in Nampa.
